I can’t find any streaming platforms that allow content providers to upload Hmong closed captions with the language ID of Hmong.
I’ve sent requests to YouTube and AWS. Some streaming platforms can only upload closed captions in languages that have an ISO 639-1 code. This is a two-letter code. Some platforms require that an audio or subtitle language have both an ISO-1 and ISO-2 code.
ISO 639-1 is the smallest of the sets in ISO 639, and is essentially closed to changes. Set 639-1 only includes about 200 codes, as it originated in the earliest days of computi. With only 676 possible alpha-2 combinations, ISO 639-1 cannot accommodate all of the world languages.
ISO 639-3 has been created to provide a comprehensive set of codes for world languages, with some 8500 active codes.
